Nationals willing to visit Kowloon, Hong Kong, through immigration control points must obtain a visa or entry permit from the Hong Kong Immigration Department directly or via one of the Chinese diplomatic missions overseas. Nationals of 145 countries enjoy visa-free entry to Hong Kong for a stay of up to 180 days, provided they carry a valid passport for more than one month.

The visa policy of Hong Kong is different from the visa policy of the rest of China. If you are visiting Hong Kong from China, Macau, you need to go through the immigration checkpoints.

Nationals of Macau enjoy visa-free entry for a short visit to Hong Kong. Nationals of Mainland China must obtain a two-way permit from the Chinese Ministry of Public Security.

Unconditional stay

A person with the "right of abode" or the "right to land" may enjoy visa-free entry to Hong Kong without a visa or entry permit and can stay unconditionally. Also, no deportation can be imposed on a person having following travel documents:

• Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
• Hong Kong Identity Card with 'R' or 'U' code
• Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Passport
• British National (Overseas) passport
• Hong Kong Certificate of Identity
• Hong Kong Re-entry Permit (for entry from China and Macau only)
• Hong Kong Seaman's Identity Book
• Hong Kong Document of Identity for Visa Purposes
